Part of the BBC Summer Special, the BBC Good Food Show Summer, held at the NEC in Birmingham entices guests with promises of alfresco dining, good company, great food and wine and shopping.
The 2008 event is scheduled to include celebrity chefs such as Gordon Ramsay, James Martin, and Simon Rimmer. All of the master chefs will enthral the audience at the Sainsburys'-sponsored "Summer Kitchen." As they deftly put together their masterpieces, making it all appear so easy, visitors will gain valuable tips and inspiration which can be used in their own kitchens at home. As a result, the shows are always quickly sold out, so if you want to be part of the audience, you are advised to book well in advance. In fact, Gordon Ramsay's Thursday afternoon show and most of his Friday shows are already sold out, as is James Martin's morning and afternoon shows on Sunday.
The 2008 BBC Good Food Show Summer will run from Wednesday, 11 June 2008 to Sunday, 15 June 2008. Tickets for each show amount to £19.50 per head and they can be purchased at the same time as the overall exhibition tickets.
The BBC Good Food Show Summer will also feature the Grand Finals of the Nestlé Toque d'Or in a hunt for the next Jamie Oliver, who had competed in the contest at one time. This is a "foodie competition," currently celebrating its 20th anniversary, created for catering students to give them an opportunity to prove their worth by designing a unique restaurant concept. Famous UK chefs are said to support the initiative. Visitors to the BBC Good Food Show Summer will have the opportunity to sample the culinary and presentation skills of the young competitors. For £27 per person, you can get a three-course lunch.
Bookings for the Nestlé Toque d'Or are limited, so book your tickets in advance here as well. Catering colleges that will be competing in the event include South Kent College, Glasgow Metropolitan College, North Devon College, Carlisle College, North Warwickshire & Hinckley College. Each school has listed their menu for the starter, main course, and dessert on the event's official website. Some of the interesting choices include a Summer Fish Special (with risotto in cabbage leaves and plaice fillets); Parsnip and Pistachio Pyramids; Loin of Exmoor Venison with a Juniper Hotpot; a chilled tomato consommé flavoured with smoked Solway salmon, basil, and asparagus; and a raspberry mousse and strawberry sorbet with a whisky and honey Anglaise.
